  With the latest bird activity in the Collingwood area, we chose to return to the Hen & Chicken Trail in Collingwood for this week. We can expect to see some ducks and swans, marsh / shorebirds and still a few warblers. The main trail is an easy 2 km walk on a gravel path / boardwalk. Depending on what we see, we may venture on the shore which is pretty rocky, so please wear sturdy shoes if you are interested.

  Please arrive 10-15 min early as birding will start at 8:30 AM sharp.

  Bike Trail Details: This is the ride for all E-bike lovers and regular bike people who like a challenge! We will ride around Lake Eugenia (approximately 25 km) and although it is a beautiful ride the challenge is in the hills that are both up and down, and we are not talking about 1 hill but quite a few. The reward is the ice cream that they sell at Top Of The Rock at reasonable prices.   Once again, we have space for 24 golfers for our Tuesday morning match at Tomahawk, June 10th.  The first group starts at 9:00 AM and the last tees off at 9:50.  If registration is full, please add your name to the Wait List as occasionally members find they cannot make it and you will be added automatically.

  This outing should give you a chance to hone your skills for the Annual Probus Golf Tournament, to be held at Shelburne Golf Club on June 17th.  Given that that is a Tuesday, we will not be playing at Tomahawk that week but will resume our normal schedule on June 24th.

• 3 Stage Pretty River Hike

  This hike is on a Wednesday at  9:30am.

  Hike Details: This 6 km loop includes a lovely forested area that features growth of a wide variety of trees, ferns, and wildflowers as part of the rugged terrain, starting with a back road portion. In addition, you can view crevice caves (we don’t hike through them) and marvellous vistas out over the escarpment.  We will hike to the highest point on the Bruce Trail, which is 540 metres.  

  Difficulty:This hike is rated Moderately Strenuous, with rocky-type footing in various sections, and a several slopes to climb, one steep. It should take approx. 2 hours in duration. Pace will be medium and as there are numerous turns it requires staying with the lead group.

  Walking sticks, bug spray, and water are recommended.  

  NOTE:  There is some poison ivy 

  Parking We will meet at the last Three Stages parking area located at junction of  the 2nd Line and 6th Side Road, east of Gilbraltar. PLEASE carpool as parking is limited.

  We kick off our season with a paddle on the Beaver River. We will meet at the parking lot by the bridge at the Beaver River Access Point #2 (Epping).

  Time: The paddle will start at 10:00 am sharp . Please arrive with enough time to unload your boats and prepare for the paddle.

  Paddling Route: We will paddle upstream towards Kimberly from the launch for about an hour then turn around and paddle back to our starting point. This is an easy paddle that will last just under 2 hours. We hope to see lots of nature along the way including a variety of birds, turtles, fish muscrat and beaver. Note: there are no washroom facilities at this location.

  Anyone interested in renting canoes or kayaks please contact Free Spirit tours in Heathcote (freespirittours.ca). They can bring your rental to the starting point. Hope you can join us for this popular paddle.

  Annual Golf Tournament!

  We are excited to announce this year's annual golf tournament! The price includes 18 holes of golf with cart, coffee and muffin to start, followed by a BBQ lunch and prizes after the golf.

  The format is "Team scramble - 18 holes". 

  As with past tournaments, the teams will be assigned by the organizers to balance the teams and encourage meeting new members. We will consider preferred pairs by request only. You are welcome to register a non-member guest for this event!

  Lunch options are: chicken on a bun, hamburger or a veggie burger or an egg salad sandwich and a choice of two side dishes: country potato salad, pasta salad, garden salad or Caesar salad.

  Leah den Bok is a photographer dedicated to sharing the stories of people experiencing homelessness through her ongoing project, Humanizing The Homeless. Her work has taken her to cities around the world—including Kolkata, Brisbane, and Mallorca—where she documents the personal struggles and resilience of those living on the streets. Through exhibitions and public talks, she continues to raise awareness and challenge stereotypes surrounding homelessness.

  Leah's work has been featured by major media outlets such as the BBC, CBS, and CBC, and she has spoken at events like WE-DAY (2016), Women of the World Festival in Brisbane (2018), and She Talks in Ontario. Leah is the recipient of several awards recognizing her impact, including the IDRF Youth Impact Award (2018), the Murray Clarkson Award (2019), the SNAP Photo Competition (2020), and the Ascend Rising Star of the Year Award (2020).

  We will be cycling the Tay Shore Trail from Midland to Waubashene and back. We will start at 10:00 AM to allow time to drive but please arrive 10 minutes early. 

  We cycle the 16.5 km section of the trail to the east then on our return we will stop at the Queen's Quay Pub (67 Juneau Road, Victoria Harbour) at the 26 km mark. After lunch on the patio we finish our total ride of 33 km.

  Bike Trail Details: 

  This ride is from Walter's Falls to Hines and Connell's lakes which is half way to Williamsford. It is an out and back route cycled on smaller and less travelled roads. It is all on pavement and the distance is approximately 23 km in total. The route is passing farms and some small communities and is quite flat but there is minimal shade, hence the earlier 9:30 AM start.

  Annual Summer Picnic 

  Join us for a fun-filled summer picnic at the Stone Tree Golf, Fitness & Banquets Centre, just east of Owen Sound. We’ll be outdoors under a spacious tent that can accommodate up to 200 people. A delicious picnic lunch will be served, including wraps, sandwiches, salads, and large cookies.

  In addition to great food, we’ll have games tables set up (euchre, board games, etc.) and space for lawn games like lawn darts and bean bag toss. 

  We’re also offering a couple of pre-picnic activity options that you can select during registration:

  • Golf Contest– A Drive, Pitch and Putt contest (limited to 30 participants)

  Jarvis Strong, Executive Director, Escaprment Corridor Alliance:
  Jarvis joined the ECA as the inaugural ED in March 2023. He has nearly 10 years of experience as a nonprofit Executive Director and has lived in the South Georgian Bay area since 2012. Before coming to the area Jarvis spent over 10 years managing summer camps and outdoor education organizations for children and youth. Previous to the ECA, Jarvis has led other charities including Camp Quality Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Collingwood YMCA. Jarvis has an HBA from the University of Waterloo in Recreation & Parks.
