We are meeting at the Collingwood Museum at 45 St. Paul St. and cycling the Clearview Collingwood Train Trail to Stayner and return (approx. 24 km.) It is a crushed gravel trail with easy, flat terrain. We will plan coffee/drinks/snacks in Stayner at the 1904 Social Haus at 7268 Main St. E. Stayner.

  We kick off our season with a paddle on the Beaver River. We will meet at the parking lot by the bridge at the Beaver River Access Point #2 (Epping).

  Time: The paddle will start at 10:00 am sharp. Please arrive with enough time to unload boats and prepare for the paddle.

  Paddling Route: We will paddle upstream towards Kimberly from the launch for about and hour then turn around and paddle back downstream to our staring point. This is an easy paddle and will last just under 2 hours. We hope to see lots of nature along the way including a variety of birds, fish, muskrat and beaver.

  Note: There are no washroom facilities at this location.

  Anyone interested in renting canoes or kayaks please contact Free Spirit Tours in Heathcote. (freespirittours.ca). They can bring the boat to the starting point and ask them to pick the boat back at our starting point at 12:00 noon.

  In the case of bad weather please check your e-mail by 8:00 am on the day of the outing for postponement or cancelation.

  This hike is on a Wednesday at 10am.

  Hike Details:   West side of the Beaver Valley. 
  
  This is a new hike for many participants and it highlights the various geological levels shown in the Beaver Valley. From the parking area we will head east along a road allowance and the Bruce Trail into the Cuckoo Valley Overlook Nature Preserve, then turn onto the Stew Hilts Side Trail. Following the trail down into the valley we will pass numerous erratics and in maybe some late Jack in the Pulpit plants. The view of the falls is closeup, muddy but marvellous.
  

  Difficulty: This is an easy hike if you don't mind going  down and up a very long hill, plus some additional ups and downs. It is likely to be muddy and we will cross some streams with chances of getting wet. Moderate pace. Distance only  3.1 kms however it feels more like 5. This trail is primarily hard pack with some rocky areas. However the close up view of the Hilts Falls and geological strata make it worth while. And there is also the reward of the view over to Cuckoo Valley at the top.  Time: Approx 1.75 hours

  As always, please ensure you have the physical ability to handle the length, difficulty and pace.

  Hiking poles & boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

  This hike is on a Thursday.

  The Loree Forest is a beautiful hike at the top of Georgian Peaks Ski Club.  It begins with a climb from the parking area to the beginning of the trail.  The hike includes both the main Bruce Trail and the Len Gertler side trail. The main trail is fairly flat, with a variety of flora and fauna. There are some rocky and uneven areas.  At the mid point of the loop, there are beautiful views over the Georgian Ski Club and the Bay. After stopping to appreciate the view, we will return along the middle of the loop, descending the hill.

  The hike is moderate, given the long ascent to begin , but we will stop a needed.  The hike is about 4 kms, estimated to take 1.5 hours.

  Bring:  Hiking boots; poles; bug spray; water; snacks; and the Probus emergency contact information card.

  Join us for our Walk on  Friday, June 5, 2026.  Walk along the Georgian Trail to enjoy the Lilac Dell by the Depot on our way to Craigleith and returning via Lakeshore Rd. E.  Then back to the parking area where we started.  Caroline Bacher has agreed to assist in leading our group as Nancy is in Prince Edward Island.

  Meeting Place:   Park at the start of Nipissing Ridge Trail, off of Aspen Way.  Take from Thornbury Hwy 26, Grey Rd 19 turn Right (West) on to Kitzbuhl Crescent then right on to Lakeshore Rd. W to Aspen Way intersect where we can park.  

  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early as the walk starts promptly at 10:00 am.

  DESCRIPTION & DIFFICULTY : This is a loop hike which starts at the parking lot on the 9th Sideroad just a east of Duncan.  It is Moderate with 1 short difficult climb and not recommended for persons with any mobility or breathing issues.  The pace is medium.

  This is an interesting hike with lots of variety. We will be using the main Bruce Trail as well as part of Kolapore Wilderness trails on the Northwest Passage. There are a number of ups and downs with a few muddy spots. Please be aware that there is a short steep climb, using hand holds, up at Pinnacle Rock.  After climbing up beside  the Rock there are great views across the valley to Metcalfe Rock.

  This loop is approximately 6 kms and will take approx. 2 hours.

  Carpooling is recommended as there are limited parking spots.

  This hike is on a Thursday at 10am.  Hopefully we can meet afterwards for a coffee at the new Kimberley Cafe.

  Michael F. will lead this approx 6 kms hike which takes about  2+ hours. Pace will be medium and difficulty will be moderate to difficult. The climb up will be a bit of a challenge.

  This is a new hike for our group as it includes hiking up the escarpment from Kimberley to the top of Old Baldy for the marvellous views over the valley.
  After parking in Kimberley we will hike south to the side trail that leads up the hill. It is an interesting trail in the woods that includes an old  bridge over the stream. The side trail is an almost constant climb that concludes with a rocky portion to the top. We will join the main Bruce trail to the Old Baldy lookout and loop back and down the hill.

  Walking poles, hiking boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

  Born and raised in Toronto, Patti built a rewarding career as a teacher, educational consultant, administrator, and advocate for inner-city children before studying journalism at Langara College. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Toronto Teachers’ College, Simon Fraser University, and the Wilderness Leadership Program at Capilano University.

  Bike Trail Details: We will be cycling the Tay Shore Trail from Midland to Waubashene and back. We will start at 10:00 AM to allow time to drive but please arrive 10 minutes early. 

  We cycle the 16.5 km section of the trail to the east then on our return we will stop at the Queen's Quay Pub (67 Juneau Road, Victoria Harbour) at the 26 km mark. After lunch on the patio we finish our total ride of 33 km.

  Bike Trail Details: 

  This ride is from Walter's Falls to Hines and Connell's lakes which is half way to Williamsford. It is an out and back route cycled on smaller and less travelled roads. It is all on pavement and the distance is approximately 23 km in total. The route is passing farms and some small communities and is quite flat but there is minimal shade, hence the earlier 9:30 AM start.

  Annual Summer Picnic 

  By popular demand, we are returning to the Stone Tree Golf, Fitness & Banquet Centre, just east of Owen Sound for our annual, fun filled summer picnic. We’ll be outdoors under a spacious tent that can accommodate up to 200 people. A delicious picnic lunch will be served, including wraps, sandwiches, salads, and large cookies.
  

  In addition to great food, we’ll have games tables set up (euchre, board games, etc.) and space for lawn games like lawn darts and bean bag toss.

  We’re also offering a couple of pre-picnic activity options that you can select during registration:
  

  • Golf Contest – A Drive, Pitch and Putt contest (limited to 30 participants) Click on the Contest Details Link to see the description of the contest! 
  • Inglis Falls Walk – A fairly flat, one-hour walk on a woodland trail (limited to 25 participants). Parking for the walk is at the Conservation Area and costs $11.30, but we will car pool from Stone Tree to share the cost. Map and directions will be sent in the reminder email one week ahead.

  Be sure to choose your preferred option when registering, as spaces are limited!

  We are very lucky to have Beth Gilhespy lead us on this hike!  Beth is well known for her Bruce Trail Conservancy work and is currently the CEO of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy. We are looking forward to her sharing some of her knowledge of the area and the geological strata.  In addition she has promised to bring along some of her books about this area and the trails, for sale after the hike.($37)

  As always, please ensure you have the physical ability to handle the length, difficulty and pace. Reminders and cancellations are only sent to those who register so please register if joining us in order to receive any changes or cancellations. As this is a limited number hike please cancel if you can't make it.

  This hike is at the beginning of the Sydenham section of the Bruce Trail. It's a delightful walk that starts at, and then passes through, two historic communities. In addition to signs of settler history there are beautiful deep forests and rocky outcrops. The final stretch follows a sparkling tributary of the Rocklyn Creek as it tumbles down a washboard of Manitoulin Dolostone layers.  The terrain is rocky but not terribly difficult. No scrambling or big hills but regular ups and downs.     

  The length is 7.4 kms.   Aprox. 3.5 hrs with many stops to appreciate the terrain. We will need a few volunteers to drive us from the parking area to the start at Blantyre.

  Walking poles, hiking boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

  Bike Trail Details: 

  This is one of my favorites, the Tiny Trail from Wyevale to Penetanguishene. The ride will last 2 hrs. and be 15km each way (30km). 

  We will be on a wonderful Rail Trail with great views of the countryside, farms, a golf course, the Blue Mountains (far far away) and of course the Penatang Harbour.

  It is a flat trail until 5 km from Penatang where we will cross the Copeland Creek 10 times with ups and downs each time…. This is the fun part and we get to do again on the way back.

  We will take a water break at the Champlain Statue in the park in Penatang, there is Chip wagon nearby for riders that have worked up a appetite, then we return to Wyevale for the world’s best soft serve Ice Cream at the Jug City.

  Join us for an 8-day scenic cycling tour along Quebec’s famous Petit Train du Nord, with charming villages, restaurants, microbreweries, and beaches along the way. The tour accommodates 14–24 cyclists, with luggage transferred daily and includes accommodations in lovely inns, breakfasts, one dinner, maps, itinerary, and guide support. A shuttle transfers participants from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Laurier, where the journey begins with a 44 km loop ride, followed by a four-day ride back to Saint-Jérôme (207 km total) at about 50 km per day, staying inn to inn.
