Hilts Falls from Johnston's Sideroad. Bruce Trail Map 26
Hike Details: This is a new hike for many participants and it highlights the various geological levels shown in the Beaver Valley. From the parking area we will head east along a road allowance and the Bruce Trail into the Cuckoo Valley Overlook Nature Preserve and turn onto the Stew Hilts Side Trail. Following the trail down into the valley we will pass numerous erratics, some late blooming Trillium and maybe Hart's Tongue fern.
Difficulty: This is an easy hike if you don’t mind going up and down a long hill. Moderate pace. Only 3.1 kms however it feels more like 5. This trail is primarily hardpack but consists largely of a long down trek followed by a long uphill. However the close up view of the Hilts Falls and geological strata make it worth while. And there is also the reward of the view over to Cuckoo Valley at the top.
Walking poles, hiking boots and bug spray recommended.
