On September 2, eleven Ramblers assembled at Lions Park in Clarksburg and made their way to the Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum.
The Ramblers were able to tour the exhibits and outbuildings to experience a bit of what the pioneer life was like for the early black settlers in our area. Pictured third from the left is the co-owner / operator of the museum, Carolynn Wilson.
Some of the quilts on display outlined the route of the Underground Railroad from Alabama to Niagara Falls and Owen Sound.
The significance of the various quilting patterns were explained - the directions or status given as warning to those making their way via the Underground Railroad.
Volunteers were on hand to answer questions, as the Ramblers toured the property.
Here is a depiction of the settlers school room.
