This hike is on a Friday. Note: start time 1:15

The Trout Hollow trail is located in the Municipality of Meaford and, for the most part, follows the bank of the Big Head River from Beautiful Joe Park to the Seventh Line.

Parking will be at Beautiful Joe Park, 162 Edwin St, Meaford. We will car pool/convoy from the Park to the starting point.

DESCRIPTION: We are lucky and pleased that this hike is being lead by local historian Robert Burcher, who has extensive knowledge about the conservationist John Muir and his connection to the  area. This is an in and out hike on the same trail. We are following the bank of the Big Head River and as such there are a few ups and downs. There are also some spectacular views of the river. We will walk to the site of John Muir's cabin and you will see the ruins of the old dam. Robert will provide us with much history and charming anecdotes from the area.

DURATION AND DIFFICULTY:  The hike is approximately 7 kms. The pathway is well used and for the most part easy footing. There are one or two hills but should be of no concern to most hikers. As well we will be walking along the river bank.   We  expect the hike will be  2-2.15  hours, depending on interests and questions.

Robert has written a book about John Muir's stay in Meaford entitled MY SUMMER OF GLORIOUS FREEDOM. If you are interested in purchasing one please bring $45 cash.
