We will ride the rail trail from Benallen to Shallow Lake, cycle the town. The trail is primarily treed canopy with an open area of swampy meadow views. We'll also take the short side trail to actually view Shallow Lake, a well hidden gem. Then we return to the parking site in Benallen.  The total distance is 20 kms, very bike friendly and flat, with a couple of rougher areas. We will also see some healthy examples of toxic Giant Hogweed plants! On Mondays the coffee shop is closed in Shallow Lake so for those who wish we will go for the all day breakfast at Elsie's Diner few KM from where we park in Benallen at the end of the ride.

Directions and parking:  Follow Hwy 26 to downtown Owen Sound.  Cross the river bridge and take the second right on 2nd Avenue; that street becomes Road 1. Follow along the shore and turn left onto 17A.  At the T-intersection turn right in Benallen. Do not take the next left after one block, instead proceed straight ahead on a gravel driveway to the parking area on the right past the trail crossing.

From Thornbury it will take less than an hour to drive, depending on traffic of course.
