2023 Season: The Explorators Cycling Group will be active for the Summer of 2023! Beverly and Marcel Forget have generously agreed to lead the group on the weekly rides until my hip is able to do a 25 km ride. So please sign up and we will be out riding together soon. Purpose: Provide members an opportunity to enhance their cycling ability, see new scenery, meet new people and have fun while still riding mainly on trails or roads infrequently travelled by cars. This group will also provide people new to cycling a way to progress from beginner to advanced road cyclist through the current cycling groups—Recreational Cycling to Explorators Cycling, to Backroads Cycling, to Country Cruisers. Ability and time of ride: Distances will be between 20 and 30 km (starting out around 20 km) while doing the riding at a gentle pace and aiming for a total riding time of minimum 2 hours. For reference the trip from Thornbury to Meaford is close to 13 km one way. Riding day: The Explorators will cycle on Wednesdays. The distance and riding time is at an intermediate level and is to provide cyclists an opportunity for increased experience, at a relaxed pace. And yes—at times—stop for a break and/or a coffee. Type of bike needed: Most bikes will suffice as routes and level of difficulty will not require special bikes. Road bikes may cause discomfort on trails due to a more rigid ride. Gravel Grinders is a perfect alternative. Possible routes: Georgian trail, Tom Thompson trail, Heather Parkway in Collingwood, Banks area, Collingwood to Stayner, Quiet Valley Road area, Around Lake Eugenia, Williamsford and many more..
