We have a loyal group of 35 to 40 CDWF supporters who continue to enjoy our regular 6 PM dining format, typically in groups of 6, 8, or occasionally 10, at various members' homes. However, during January and February, we offer a choice of a lunch gathering at 12 noon or a dinner experience at 6 PM—both held on the same date—due to concerns about night driving during the winter months.

We enjoy our potluck picnics in July and August, as well as the December cocktail party, which are always special occasions for the entire group. While we all enjoy our smaller group dining experiences, these three large events provide a great opportunity to all reconnect with one another. We’re especially grateful to the members who volunteer to host—without their generosity in offering their homes, time, and delicious main courses, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy these gatherings. For those of you considering joining us, the format for our get-togethers is outlined below.


The host prepares the main dish for each event and the guests participate in the meal by providing an appetizer, a salad, a vegetable dish or a dessert of their choice, as requested by the host. The guests also bring their preferred beverages and all in all the evenings are fun, relaxed and not too much effort for anyone. The host, other than the usual dust and vac, sets the table, provides the table settings and does the post cleanup—aren’t we glad most of us have dishwashers? It is expected that each regular participant will take a turn at hosting at least twice throughout the fall, winter, or spring months. The committee will organize the summer potluck picnics and the December cocktail party.

    Again many thanks to Chris and Dave for hosting our July picnic. It was a lovely evening and an enjoyable time for all.

    Hazel and Martin  have offered to host our August event in their lovely back yard resting on the banks of the Beaver River. We’ll look forward to another lovely summer evening. However, just in case, Aug. 28th will be our backup date.

    As usual for our picnics you are asked to bring a ready to serve food item of your choice sufficiently generous to provide 8 servings. This will be a traditional pot luck event.

    As well we would ask that you bring dishes, glasses, utensils for your own use and your beverage of choice.
