The Great Backyard Bird Count is a global citizen‑science event led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the National Audubon Society, and Birds Canada. Each February, people worldwide count the birds they see, helping scientists track populations, spot early signs of decline, and guide conservation efforts.
We’ll visit a few reliable birding spots in Meaford and Thornbury, birding from the roadside since many parking areas aren’t maintained in winter. Each stop will take about 20–30 minutes, and we expect to finish around 11:30 AM. I’ll submit all sightings to eBird and share the list afterward.
If weather is poor (high winds or heavy precipitation), we’ll go the next day. Please dress warmly, bring gloves or mitts, and consider car‑pooling.
This is an easy and meaningful way to enjoy nature and support bird conservation.
Join us, be part of the count, and help make every bird sighting count!
Meet at Foodland Thornbury, back of the parking lot along Louisa Street W.
