President's Message
Caroline Bacher

Dear Members,

Two years have passed and it is time for a new beginning for our PROBUS Club. I will be stepping down as President and would like to thank all of our Management Committee members for their dedication and support throughout these two years of the pandemic.

A special thanks goes to Marion Stewart, Past President for staying on for a second term and participating on our Management Committee. Also to Beverly Forget, our Speaker Co-chair, who after several years is stepping down. Her search for informative speakers has been appreciated.

I also would like to thank all of our Activity Leaders for resuming their small groups whether it be via Zoom or in-person. It is through small group activities that members really get to know one another as they participate in shared interests.

All members have skills and knowledge that could be valuable to our Club. I encourage you to volunteer for positions on our Management Committee. There are two positions open, that of Co-secretary and Activities Co-convenor. Activity Leader is another way to participate in our Club. Volunteering can be a very enriching and fulfilling experience.

Sincerely,
Caroline Bacher

Stratford Theater Outing - Richard III

Our Stratford Outing is Back!!

After a 2 year hiatus due to Covid, Beaver Valley PROBUS Club is pleased to announce the resumption of our annual Stratford Festival outing. We hope that you will be able to join us to see William Shakespeare’s Richard III, in the brand new Tom Patterson Theatre!

Date: Wednesday, June 8
Time: 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Cost: $127 per person (tax & gratuities included)

Price includes: Bus transportation from Thornbury to Stratford and return, lunch at Anna Mae’s Restaurant and Bakery in Millbank, and a ticket to the 2 PM performance. Lunch is a choice of roast beef or “broasted” chicken, with fresh pie for dessert, and tea or coffee.

Play: Richard III - by William Shakespeare
Starring: Colm Feore as Richard, with Seana Mckenna and Lucy Peacock

“As charismatic as he is cunning, as strangely seductive as he is utterly ruthless, Richard, Duke of Gloucester is the very embodiment of lethal ambition as he manoeuvres and murders his way to the throne of England, sardonically revelling in his own villainy every step of the way. But once he has reached the top, the only way left to go is down-and in Richard’s growing roster of vengeful enemies, none are more menacing than the ghosts of the past”

Watch for the event invitation coming on March 17 by email, and register as soon as possible, as space is limited and spots will fill-up quickly. Because of our need to purchase tickets well in advance, online payment by credit card will be required at the time of registration to confirm your spot.

We hope to see you there!

Activity Groups Update:

Ilene Rushefsky Charland
Colleen Wilson-Dick

Our annual Activity Fair was held online again this year. A large number of participants enjoyed the presentations from a variety of activity group leaders. There was an opportunity to ask questions at the break-out sessions which followed. Thanks to all the presenters for speaking about the activities.

Registration for activity groups has already begun and will continue through to April 26.

Click on the Activities button above to see the list of all the Activity Groups. Then click on an Activity Group link to read all about the group and use the Register button from there to sign-up. Don't delay, as many activities will be starting soon and you won't want to miss out. Once you are signed up for the Activity Group you will then receive emails that will tell you about upcoming events and when and where to meet!

We are asking everyone to sign-up again for 2022 activities (even if you were registered last year for that group).

Computer Group
Martin Buscher

The Computer Group met on February 23 and had some lively conversation on  the topic of Google Docs and Google Sheets— the online rivals of Microsoft Word and Excel. There won't be a meeting in March, but hopefully we will be able to meet in person when the Group meets next on April 27.

Dining Around Town
Hank Bouwman

Something new! Based on our members feedback, we will try a luncheon instead of a dinner for the months of March and April. We have booked The Corner Café for Wednesday, March 16 with 42 people signed up and have started a waitlist for this event. On Wednesday, April 13 we have reserved the large back room at Al Carbon, in Collingwood. They opened in 2021 and specialize in authentic Peruvian cuisine. I have personally had both a lunch and dinner at Al Carbon and it was very good. You will have a salad and choice of 5 entrees to choose from for a cost of $24.00 (have a look at the bottom of our Activity Page in the Upcoming Events section and you will find the menu choices). Invitations will only go out on March 25, to those members that have registered for Dining Around Town

Dining With Flair
Debbie Catto, Marion Stewart, Shellie Smith, Eileen Scott, Sallie Kedwell

Dining With Flair wishes to WELCOME everyone, especially our New Members. We are expecting a real re-opening soon and our committee is working hard to plan for a new year of dining with friends.  EXPECTED START DATE: 28 APRIL, 2022 (4th Thursday).

Mark this date on your calendar and of course, don’t forget to sign-up for the Dining With Flair Activity Group. Then sit tight and await your invitation— sent only to those who are registered. You can anticipate:  a new name - a new look - a  new feel!
