Canoeing and Kayaking #2 CANCELLED (June 17, 2026)

Our next paddle will be at the boat launch at Wasaga Sports Park.Time:

The paddle will start at 10:00 AM sharp. Please give yourself enough time to unload your boats, park your car and prepare for the paddle.

We will have a casual paddle up the Nottawasaga River heading east (left) from the Boat Launch past Jack's Lake then we will turn around and paddle back to the boat launch. The total paddling time will be approximately 2 hrs. We hope to see a variety of nature along the way including a very large Eagle's nest just past Jack's Lake. We hope you can join us for this fun paddle.

Note: There are both washroom and picnic facilities onsite.

Canoe and Kayak rentals are available onsite through Free Spirit Tours. Book at freespirittours.ca .Anyone interested in renting canoes or kayaks please contact Free Spirit Tours. They can bring the boat to the starting point and ask them to pick the boat back at our starting point at 12:00 noon.

In the case of bad weather please check your e-mail by 8:00 am on the day of the outing for postponement or cancelation.

Backroads Cycling #5 (June 18, 2026)

This is a Meaford Area Ride Approx 33km (avoiding Lakeshore Drs.).

Construction is to begin this week on Lakeshore Dr. so we will be avoiding this area. Hence the back and forth across Hwy #26. Be mindful of the traffic when crossing. Do I sound like your mother??

Turn right out of the parking lot and ride over the bridge. Right onto Bayfield St. A quick left onto Nelson St. Go straight thru @ the lights at Sykes riding up the hill past the hospital. Road swings to the left becoming Pearson Rd then swings right to become Miller Rd and then County Rd #12. Go past 7th Line to the second intersection. Turn left onto #112 @ the stop sign. Right onto 10th Side Rd (Derry Rd). Rolling hills! Turn right @ Sydenham Twnshp Rd #11th Line. Watch for potholes. Right @ the church onto 16th Side Rd riding up the hill. Turn left @ the stop sign onto #112. Cross Hwy #26. Continue north & turn right onto Side Rd #22. Once again watch for uneven pavement. Turn right @ the stop sign onto 7th Line. Crossing Hwy #26 again. At the stop sign turn left onto Grey Rd #12. Follow the road as it turns and becomes Pearson.You will be turning RIGHT onto Miller at this junction. Go down the small hill to the stop sign and turn slightly left onto Legion St. riding past the park which is on the right hand side. Left @ the stop sign onto Cook St. Right onto Nelson. Go thru the lights@ Sykes, turning right into the back parking lot for McGinty's Cafe. Coffee/Tea Break on their back deck. From here returning to the parking lot @ the harbour.

This is a very pretty ride with some new pavement to enjoy and some nasty potholes in a few places to keep us humble. Be alert esp on the downhills.

Please bring money for the coffee break which we will enjoy @ the end of the ride.

Hike #7 (June 18, 2026)

This hike is on a Thursday at 9:39am. Hopefully we can meet afterwards for a coffee at the new Kimberley Cafe.

Michael F. will lead this approx 6 kms hike which takes about 2+ hours. Pace will be medium and difficulty will be moderate to difficult. The climb up will be a bit of a challenge.

As always, please ensure you have the physical ability to handle the length, difficulty and pace.

This is a new hike for our group as it includes hiking up the escarpment from Kimberley to the top of Old Baldy for the marvellous views over the valley.
After parking in Kimberley we will hike south to the side trail that leads up the hill. It is an interesting trail in the woods that includes an old bridge over the stream. The side trail is an almost constant climb that concludes with a rocky portion to the top. We will join the main Bruce trail to the Old Baldy lookout and loop back and down the hill.

Walking poles, hiking boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

Nipissing Ridge Trail is a lovely trail just south of the Georgian trail and west of Blue Mountain Road. It follows a stream, winding through a forest area. It is relatively flat, with a few inclines and declines. The path is well trodden and very popular. Many of you would have done this trail with the snowshoe group; it is one of my favourite local trails. Time: about 1- 1.5 hour

Welcome to the first OUTDOOR Cocktails and Nibblies event of 2026. For new members, it is a great way to meet other BVPC members, share stories and make new friends. For the 'seasoned veterans' it's a time to renew acquaintances, and meet new members. It is a fun and relaxing social time for all.

To make it as easy as possible, those attending are expected to bring an appetizer to share (6-8 servings, please), along with needed serving utensils. Guests bring their own beverages, dishes, utensils, etc. We want to make this as easy a possible for our hosts.

We will need hosts for this monthly Cocktails and Nibblies events. As a host, you only have to provide a table for people to place their appetizers. Guests are expected to bring their choice of beverages, plates, cutlery, etc., and their contribution to the appetizer table. We usually have approx 20 to 30 guests. Again, it is Outdoors, so don't worry about indoor space.

For our next session, we will explore the Stayner EcoPark (lagoons). This is a flat and easy trail. We will check the small pond and the east side of the lagoon and retrace our steps. Our outing will be a maximum of 2 hours. This park is a well known and a popular year-round bird-watching area. There is one porta-toilet at the EcoBark Dog Park, approximately half way into our walk.

Recreational Cycling #6 (June 22, 2026)

This is a scenic ride along the Tay Shore Trail which hugs the shore of Georgian Bay. We will cycle from Sainte-Marie Among The Hurons (Brebeuf Event Centre) to Waubaushene and return (33 km). It is an easy ride along a paved trail with only one or two small hills. After our ride we will plan lunch at the Boathouse Eatery in Midland (177 King St. - 705-242-2428)

We will meet at the Brebeuf Event Centre at 16164 Hwy 12 East, Midland.(Sainte-Marie Among The Hurons (Huronia Historical Parks). It is approximately one and half hours from Thornbury/Collingwood.

Patti Shales Lefkos, journalist, adventure traveller and best-selling author of Nepal One Day at a Time and Grounded by Granite, has trekked extensively in Nepal. Her non-profit 'Nepal One Day at a Time Society' supports education and home building in post-earthquake Nepal.

Born and raised in Toronto, Patti built a rewarding career as a teacher, educational consultant, administrator, and advocate for inner-city children before studying journalism at Langara College. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Toronto Teachers’ College, Simon Fraser University, and the Wilderness Leadership Program at Capilano University.

This hike is on a Wednesday at 9:30am. NOTE THE TIME CHANGE. Hopefully we can meet afterwards for a coffee at the Ravenna Market.

Joanne P. will lead this approx 8 kms hike which takes about 2+ hours. Pace and difficulty will be moderate. If it is a very hot day the hike will be shorter.

Wonderful wilderness; primarily deciduous forest. Starting from the northern Kolapore parking area the hike will be on the Paradise Trail and loop back on the Church Trail.The terrain is moderate difficulty (no big hills) but LOTS of ups and downs, with some rocky and wet/muddy areas.

Walking poles, hiking boots and water are recommended. Bug spray Will be required.

We have arranged a tour of Gibson's Honey Farm

We hope that you can join us for an interesting honey farm tour.

We will be dressed in bee suits as we view the hives, and learn about the bees and honey production. There will be an opportunity to visit their store as well.

This is a working farm, and unfortunately is unsuitable for members with mobility issues.

Even though you will be wearing protective bee suits on the tour, we would advise anyone with an allergy to bee stings not to register!

Tay Shore Trail and Lunch ... This Ride is on a Monday this Year

Bike Trail Details: We will be cycling the Tay Shore Trail from Midland to Waubashene and back. We will start at 10:00 AM to allow time to drive but please arrive 10 minutes early.

We cycle the 16.5 km section of the trail to the east then on our return we will stop at the Queen's Quay Pub (67 Juneau Road, Victoria Harbour) at the 26 km mark. After lunch on the patio we finish our total ride of 33 km.

We will meet at the BVCC, and cycle to the Georgian Trail. Following the trail, we will continue to Georgian Peaks. After crossing hwy 26 at the traffic light, we will ride to Delphie Beach, and stop and enjoy the beach. On the return back to the BVCC, we will cycle around the small streets in the Delphi St. area. This is an easy ride with mostly flat terrain on the trail. 18/19km.

Walters Falls to Robson Lake and return. Note 9:30 start

Bike Trail Details:

This ride is from Walter's Falls to Hines and Connell's lakes which is half way to Williamsford. It is an out and back route cycled on smaller and less travelled roads. It is all on pavement and the distance is approximately 23 km in total. The route is passing farms and some small communities and is quite flat but there is minimal shade, hence the earlier 9:30 AM start.

Annual Summer Picnic

By popular demand, we are returning to the Stone Tree Golf, Fitness & Banquet Centre, just east of Owen Sound for our annual, fun filled summer picnic. We’ll be outdoors under a spacious tent that can accommodate up to 200 people. A delicious picnic lunch will be served, including wraps, sandwiches, salads, and large cookies.

In addition to great food, we’ll have games tables set up (euchre, board games, etc.) and space for lawn games like lawn darts and bean bag toss.

We’re also offering a couple of pre-picnic activity options that you can select during registration:

Golf Contest – A Drive, Pitch and Putt contest (limited to 30 participants) Click on the Contest Details Link to see the description of the contest!
Inglis Falls Walk – A fairly flat, one-hour walk on a woodland trail (limited to 25 participants). Parking for the walk is at the Conservation Area and costs $11.30, but we will car pool from Stone Tree to share the cost. Map and directions will be sent in the reminder email one week ahead.

Be sure to choose your preferred option when registering, as spaces are limited!

CANCELLED. Rocklyn Creek Hike & Lunch (July 22, 2026)

This hike is on a Wednesday at 9AM. : Rain or Shine. I have made a reservation at the Falls Inn at Walter's Falls for lunch (optional). Please advise me by return email if you are joining me.

We are very lucky to have Beth Gilhespy lead us on this hike! Beth is well known for her Bruce Trail Conservancy work and is currently the CEO of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy. We are looking forward to her sharing some of her knowledge of the area and the geological strata. In addition she has promised to bring along some of her books about this area and the trails, for sale after the hike.($37)

As this is a limited number hike please cancel if you can't make it.

This hike is at the beginning of the Sydenham section of the Bruce Trail. It's a delightful walk that starts at, and then passes through, two historic communities. In addition to signs of settler history there are beautiful deep forests and rocky outcrops. The final stretch follows a sparkling tributary of the Rocklyn Creek as it tumbles down a washboard of Manitoulin Dolostone layers. The terrain is rocky but not terribly difficult. No scrambling or big hills but regular ups and downs.

The length is 7.4 kms. Aprox. 3.5 hrs with many stops to appreciate the terrain. We will need a few volunteers to drive us from the parking area to the start at Blantyre.

Tiny Trail: Wyevale to Penatang and return: 30 km

At the lights in Wyevale turn right onto Conc Rd. 5 E, there is a parking lot on the left before the School. For those who use "what3words" irritable.picture.evolve

Bike Trail Details:

This is one of my favorites, the Tiny Trail from Wyevale to Penetanguishene. The ride will last 2 hrs. and be 15km each way (30km).

We will be on a wonderful Rail Trail with great views of the countryside, farms, a golf course, the Blue Mountains (far far away) and of course the Penatang Harbour.

It is a flat trail until 5 km from Penatang where we will cross the Copeland Creek 10 times with ups and downs each time…. This is the fun part and we get to do again on the way back.

We will take a water break at the Champlain Statue in the park in Penatang, there is Chip wagon nearby for riders that have worked up a appetite, then we return to Wyevale for the world’s best soft serve Ice Cream at the Jug City.

Five nights and four days in fabled Haida Gwaii. Four days are spent touring the waters around Gwaii Hannas, a protected national park reserve. The tours are by 10-person Zodiac’s on which we will visit this uniquely beautiful area - often called “The Galapagos of Canada”. Bike Trail Details: This week's ride is from Williamsford to Connell & Hines Lake and it is on quiet paved country roads and past beautiful scenery and no major hills. The ride is approximately 28 km long and we will rest and enjoy the peace, quiet and a swim at Hines Lake.

Coffee: No place to have one, we are in the boonies.

Kemble Loop ... 10 AM start to allow for travel

Meeting Place: Intersection of Grey Road # 1 and Kemble Rock Road, parking lot of the Kemble Women's Institute lookout North of OS.

Bike Trail Details: This ride is going from the area of Kemble and up to Big Bay with the return route being Grey Road # 1 along the Bay. It is beautiful scenery and there are some hills and gravel, the effort is well worth it but getting closer to the Fall we are all in shape after many rides.

Please remember to bring your helmet, contact information card, put on sunscreen and bring water or other beverage of your choice.

E-Bikes & Explorators - Welland Bike Trip (September 09, 2026)

This two-night bike trip to Welland is planned for after Labour Day and is open to members of the E- Bike and Explorators Activity Group. We will be staying at the Best Western Rose City Suites, conveniently located just steps from the Welland Canal recreational trail.

The hotel is bike-friendly and offers a secure storage room for bicycles; guests also have the option of bringing their bikes into their rooms. A complimentary breakfast is included each morning.

Participation is limited to 30 riders. If the trip fills up, please add your name to the waitlist. Single participants who would like to share a room are welcome, and we will do our best to arrange suitable roommate matches.

Day 1 - Wed Sept 9: Bike to Lock 7 viewing center (36 km return)
Dinner is Pot luck in the Rose room.
Day 2 - Thurs Sept 10 . We will transport our Bikes to a parking lot in Niagara Falls and bike to Niagara on the Lake for lunch 30 km return.
Dinner is at the infamous "Rex Hotel"
Day 3 - Fri Sept 11: Return home. or go to a matinee at the Shaw then return home.

Travel: Le Petit Train du Nord Cycling Trip (September 13, 2026)

Join us for an 8-day scenic cycling tour along Quebec’s famous Petit Train du Nord, with charming villages, restaurants, microbreweries, and beaches along the way. The tour accommodates 14–24 cyclists, with luggage transferred daily and includes accommodations in lovely inns, breakfasts, one dinner, maps, itinerary, and guide support. A shuttle transfers participants from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Laurier, where the journey begins with a 44 km loop ride, followed by a four-day ride back to Saint-Jérôme (207 km total) at about 50 km per day, staying inn to inn. Elmvale to Anton Mills & return 27km Mostly on a Rail trail with one section on a county Rd, if you want a shorter ride you can turn around at any point.

Our September DIning Around Town is at Marilynne Restaurant in Markdale. We must have a minimum of 35 members as the restaurant is opening up especially for us.

The meal is served "Family Style". Dinner is $43.00 plus tax & gratuity.

No-Shows or late cancellations will be charged $43.00.

Menu: Herb roasted Beef, with red wine gravy and horseradish.

Sides: Caesar Salad with bacon, Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, honey glazed carrots and charred broccoli florets.

Starting Point We will meet at the Hibou Conservation Area, 359099 Grey County Road 15 (also called Bayshore Road) my three words are opener.joints.cooperation

At times it is paid parking at Hibou (a Grey Sauble Conservation Authority (GSCA) pass will let you park for free, there is also some parking at the entrance, Chances are the lot won't be Supervised on a Monday in Sept. There is a washroom at Hibou.

Bike Trail Details: This weeks ride will explore the area around Leith and Annan. . We will follow Bayshore Road along the Bay, head to the upper bench on SR 18 and through Annan on CR 15 to Tom Thomson Lane to Leith then back to Hibou Conservation area and yes there are both hills up and down and some Gravel

Lunch: We will have Lunch at the old Owen Sound Airport, its a great restaurant called Williams on 26 .

End of season ride and Party (September 28, 2026)

Meeting Point .... At Terry and Vicki's house, lots of parking in our driveway and on the street. Address will be on the confirmation email

Details: We will have a mystery ride, well not so much a mystery as we did it last year. After the ride you invited to our house for a end of season gathering, there will be Coffee and treats and we may be able to find some Beer and Wine.

We will provide the snacks and drinks but as it will be Noon when we return from the ride and you may be hungry and wish to bring a lunch to picnic on our deck.

We could talk about the 2027 riding season and next years overnight trip.
