Meaford International Film Festival 2026 (September 25, 2026)

This year we are going to the Meaford International Film Festival, and hope that you can join us.

We will be viewing the film Still Mine.

Based on true events and laced with wry humour, Still Mine is a heartfelt love story about an 89-year-old New Brunswicker who comes up against the system when he sets out to build a more suitable house for his wife.

We will have an optional pre show brunch at The Eggcitement Bistro, at 11:30. Please indicate when you register if you will be coming for the brunch as well, so that we can make the appropriate reservation. The cost of brunch is extra, paid at the time, and is NOT included in the registration fee.

Payment: Payment is online only. Member couples may register and pay together if they wish. If you need any assistance with the online payment, please call us—we can even take your credit card details over the phone!

Refund Policy: As with past events, refunds will not be given for any reason

E-bikes and Explorators end of season ride and Party (September 28, 2026)

Meeting Point .... At Terry and Vicki's house, lots of parking in our driveway and on the street. Address will be on the confirmation email

Details: We will have a mystery ride, well not so much a mystery as we did it last year. After the ride you invited to our house for a end of season gathering, there will be Coffee and treats and we may be able to find some Beer and Wine.

We will provide snacks and drinks but if you wish you could bring some finger foods to share.

We could talk about the 2027 riding season and next years overnight trip.

Recreational Cycling #19 (September 28, 2026)

Meeting place: Brebeuf Event Centre at 16164 Hwy 12 East, Midland

Don and I have been asked to lead the cycle again along the Tay Shore Rail Trail as some members of our group were unable to participate in the June ride. This is a scenic easy ride which hugs the shore of Georgian Bay. We will cycle from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons (Brebeuf Event Centre) to Waubaushene and return (33 km). It is an effortless ride along a paved flat trail with only one or two small hills. After our ride we will plan lunch at the Boathouse Eatery in Midland (177 Kings St.- 705-242-2428). In June we had a very enjoyable ride and lunch.

We have booked four starting times for up to 16 players at Tomahawk next Tuesday, September 29th, beginning at 9:00 and going through to 9:30 AM. Please let me know if you need an early or late tee off time and we will try to accommodate you. As always, if the roster is full when you try to register, please add your name to the Wait List and we will get you out somehow. We can probably add tee times if needed as the course is pretty quiet these days.

Hike leaders: Louis and Ilene

The Creemore Nature preserve property was donated by the Mingay family. It is considered a gem, close to town, but with a lovely , peaceful feeling, as if you are nowhere near a town. Some of the features noted are: a brook, rolling hills and forest. There are ups and downs, but they are short.

This hike is rated easy, about 4km. TIme: 1.5 hours

Bring: Water, hiking poles, sunscreen ( hopefully needed), bug spray, hat, hiking shoes.

Note this is a Wednesday hike 11am start

One of our members has graciously offered her property for a hiking event and a light lunch.

Charlene would love to invite you to join her for a hike along the trails on her 100 acre property near Irish Lake, just north or Priceville and south of Markdale.

We'll wander through meadows and forest, over gently rolling hills and along a mix of grassy paths, small rocky trails and some of the lovely karst terrain found on the property. The hike will be moderate/easy and take approximately 70-90 minutes.

Afterwards, anyone who would like to linger for a wee social and enjoy a few light bites in the garden is most welcome! Bringing a few finger foods to share would be helpful. Please bring something to sit on, as we have more guests than garden chairs.

Charlene hopes we have a good turnout for a little fresh air, wandering and good company.

Please bring water, bug spray and footwear suitable for grass and uneven/rocky trails.

Reminders and cancellations are only sent to those who register so please register if joining us in order to receive any changes or cancellations. And please cancel if you can't attend.

Meeting Place: Parking @ the Rocklyn Arena ( 7th Line & Side Rd 22B)

This ride will begin @ 9:30AM. Please note the time change and plan to arrive 15 mins earlier so you are ready to ride on time.

Rocklyn to Walter's Falls via Hamill Rd. Approx 32km

This is the Last Ride of the Season.

.We will turn right out of the parking lot onto 7th Line.

Turn left @ the stop sign onto Side Rd 22B. Go straight thru "Goring". Continue on until you reach the Euphrasia Holland Twnline & turn right @ the stop sign. Turn left onto Grey Rd #40. Right onto Conc Rd #10 continuing onto Hamill Rd which becomes Grey Rd #29 & turning left towards the Fall's Inn.

We will enjoy a light Breakfast there.

Leaving the Inn we will be making our way over to Grey Rd #40 turning left. A paved shoulder greets us. Take this to County Rd #12 turn right. Left onto Side Rd #22B. Returning to the Arena. Approx 32km

Bring money for breakfast. It is approx $15 for a coffee/tea yogurt and a scone. We began this season's first ride here, thought it fitting to complete the season in the same fashion. Slightly longer route. 32km. Hope to see you there.

Celebrate PROBUS Month with Us!

October 1st is officially National Seniors Day, but PROBUS is celebrating all month long! Throughout October, we’re recognizing the incredible contributions of PROBUS Clubs across the country.

We invite you to join us on Monday, October 5 at 9:00 AM for a special event hosted by the Town of the Blue Mountains. (The flagpole is located beside the Town of the Blue Mountains municipal building, close to the Thornbury bridge.)

The morning will feature:

An official Proclamation of October as PROBUS Month.
The raising of our new Beaver Valley PROBUS flag at the Riverwalk Flagpole (located on the west side of the Town Offices, near the wooden fish sculptures).

We will be hosted by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council of the Town of the Blue Mountains. We will also be joined by Martin Buscher, Past President of PROBUS Canada.

This is a proud moment for the Beaver Valley PROBUS Club, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Come celebrate our role in the community and show your support for PROBUS in the Town of the Blue Mountains!

Hike # 22 (October 07, 2026)

Note this is a Wednesday hike 10am start

This is a new hike for our group. It will combine the main Bruce Trail, a side trail and a Devil's Glen trail. We will start and finish by the Mad River, following it for 2 kms, some valley views, ending with a long downhill on a ski run.

The length is 7.8 kms and incorporates several long ascents and one long descent. The pace is medium and the difficulty as Moderately Strenuous due to the ascents. Primarily hard packed forested trail with a rocky road allowance ascent and some overgrown areas. estimated time of 2hrs 10 minutes.

Please bring water and hiking poles.

Optional coffee/lunch in Nottawa.

Come and play in our monthly euchre tournament.

Please use church FRONT entrance and go downstairs to the Great Hall to play. Elevator available. Everyone helps with set-up and clean up and stays to the end when the scores are announced.

Hiking #23 (October 14, 2026)

Kolapore South + social afterwards for coffee or lunch at Utopia market (optional)

This hike is on a Wednesday at 10:00 am

Hike Leader: Joanne P.

The hike starts at the south parking lot in the Kolapore Uplands and includes MNR land. Primarily hard packed dirt trails, with rocky areas, through continuous forest. The loop will include Country Forest, Kingsway and John’s Portage trails with boardwalk areas and opportunities to spot rare ferns. The terrain is mostly flat with one hill on the Kingsway section.

The total distance is approx. 6 km and should last 2+hours. Easy to Moderate level of difficulty. Pace: moderate.

The start is the new paved parking lot a couple kms south of the Kolapore Church. Complete directions on the confirmation email.

Please remember to bring water and hiking poles.

25th Anniversary - Grand Finale (October 22, 2026)

Timeline:

12:00 p.m. - Doors open at noon. Enjoy a reception featuring “small bites” catered by Chef Christina Sheardown. Cash bar.
1:30 p.m. - We move to the theatre to be welcomed with an address by President Kirby Philp, followed by remarks from Martin Buscher, Ontario District 7 Director and Past President of Probus Canada. Special thanks to our Founders, Past Presidents and hundreds of volunteers.
2:00 p.m. - Duelling Pianos Niagara takes the stage. Prepare to be entertained!
4:00 p.m.- We bid farewell to the first 25 years and look forward to the future!

Speaker: Joan Knighton
Topic: British Home Children—The Almost Forgotten Children

Joan Knighton is a former teacher, nurse and ortho tech and a proud descendant of a British Home Child. She has previously written and published her father's story. In her retirement she loves presenting this important, but often little known, part of Canadian history. She feels that she honours her Dad and all the children each time she presents.

Joan will present the history of the British Child Migrant Scheme, which spanned eight decades. More than 100,000 children of all ages were sent by ship to Canada, where many became indentured farm or domestic workers until the age of 18. She will cover why, how and the outcome of the system that gave us The British Home Children.

Enjoy doing puzzles? We have started up a jigsaw puzzle exchange table at our monthly member speaker meetings. Bring 1 or 2 jigsaw puzzles and exchange them at the back of the room. Puzzles must be 100% complete with no missing pieces.

Topic: Canada, Canadians and the Beatles

John Arnone’s two great loves are Canada and The Beatles. He will be sharing details from his new book, "Canada, Canadians and The Beatles". He wants the world to know that the story of The Beatles is the story of Canada and Canadians, with connections to every province of the country.

"Canada, Canadians and The Beatles" is the culmination of five years of research and writing. In it, Arnone reveals a treasured piece of our history in an entertaining and thought-provoking way.

Arnone has been a die-hard fan of The Beatles since the age of 9 when he first heard Let It Be. He holds a journalism degree and is retired from a 35-year career in newspapers and magazines but mostly in the corporate world.

Speaker: Karin Euler
Topic: Mission Work in Tanzania

Dr. Karin Euler began her academic journey in 1987, earning a BA in Life Sciences from Queen's University in 1991. She then attended Medical School at the University of Western Ontario, where she was named to the Dean’s List and received an award for her mission work in Angola. She completed her internship at Dalhousie University, with hospital affiliations at Guelph General Hospital (1992–2002), Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (2009–2023), and Grey Bruce Health Services (2007–2023). Dr. Euler is currently employed at the Community Health Caring Refugee Clinic. Since 2010, she has participated in annual medical missions to Tanzania with the Canadian African Community Health Alliance and has supported the Women's Shelter in Collingwood. A Family Doctor since 1992, she has special interests in palliative care, tropical medicine, sickle cell anemia, and mental health.

Golf Tournament 2027 (June 15, 2027)

We are excited to announce the 2027 annual golf tournament! The price includes 18 holes of golf with cart, coffee and muffin to start, followed by a BBQ lunch and prizes after the golf.

The format is "Team scramble - 18 holes".

As with past tournaments, the teams will be assigned by the organizers to balance the teams and encourage meeting new members. We will consider preferred pairs by request only. You are welcome to register a non-member guest for this event!

Lunch options are: chicken on a bun, hamburger or a veggie burger or an egg salad sandwich and a choice of two side dishes: country potato salad, pasta salad, garden salad or Caesar salad.

This will be determined using R&A standards for play whereby dangerous weather prevents safe play on the course. Beyond this we will play—rain or shine. If the tournament is cancelled, we will reschedule based on availability of requested rain date.
