Golf Group 2 (May 19, 2026)

This season's first game at Tomahawk Golf Course was a great success, despite cool but sunny weather. Our next outing, on Tuesday, May 19th, should be a bit warmer and more spring-like.

I have booked 5 tee times between 9:10 and 9:50AM, meaning 20 golfers. If the registration is full when you try to join, please put your name on the Waitlist as frequently there are players who withdraw, and you will be added automatically if a space opens up. If you need to start early or late, or wish to go out with particular players, please send me an email ASAP and I will try to accommodate you.

I will miss this week's game, so we will start fun challenges in week 3 (closest to the hole, longest putt, fewest sand traps visited, most holes without losing a ball, etc.) as soon as I have worked out how to record your weekly points. Not sure yet what the grand prize will be - stay tuned for details.

Hike #3 (May 19, 2026)

This hike is on a Tuesday at 2 PM

Sandy T will be leading this hike. Bruce Trail Map 24

Description: The hike includes both the main Bruce Trail and the Len Gertler side trail with beautiful views over the Georgian Ski Club and the Bay. We will go west around the loop to the top of the Peaks, then eastward back to finish the loop and return to the parking lot via the service road.

Difficulty & Pace is rated as easy/moderate with some rocky areas, uneven footing with many tree roots and many fallen branches. There is one long ascent and descent and we hope to stop and observe any wildflowers and points of interest.

The hike is 5.4 kms estimated to take 1.5-2 hours.

Carpooling is recommended. Long pants suggested re areas with poison ivy

Bring water, bug spray and hiking poles recommended.

Backroads Cycling #1 (May 21, 2026)

9:30 start this week.

The 2026 Back Roads Cycling Season is upon us.

Our first ride will leave from the Rocklyn Arena. We will ride to The Fall's Inn located in the village of Walter's Falls where we can enjoy a light breakfast, renew old friendships and get acquainted with some new faces.

Parking @ the Rocklyn Arena located @ 7th Line and Side Rd 22B. Turn right out of the parking lot onto 7th Line. At the stop sign turn left onto Side Rd 22B. Go straight thru "Goring". Continue on until you reach Euphrasia Holland Townline turning right @ the stop sign. Follow this into Walter's Falls to the restaurant. After our break we will be returning on Grey Rd #40 (left turn). Continue riding on the paved bike lane turning right onto Grey Rd #12. Left onto Side Rd #22B returning back to the Arena parking lot. Smart Phone Camera Basics (May 21, 2026)

You are invited to attend a free Smart Phone Camera Basics Workshop at the LE Shore Library!

There will be a slide presentation to demonstrate Apple and Samsung basic smart phone camera features and settings, such as, but not limited to: opening the camera, care and cleaning, the lenses, features such as flash, night mode, timer, exposure, aspect, filters and zoom, and settings such as photo, portrait, panorama, video, cinematic, and selfies.

If time permits, we will also look at photo editing techniques such as cropping, adjusting exposure, saturation, and horizon line.

Please note: This workshop is to familiarize you with the camera's functioning. It is not a photography workshop.

Hiking down a notch #1 (May 21, 2026)

Welcome to the first hike of the new Hiking group "Hiking Down a Notch". Our hikes will be a little shorter ( 4-5 km), a little slower and rated easy to moderate.

This hike is on a Thursday at 1:30 pm.

Generally an easy hike with fairly flat terrain. The hike is not a loop and will be in and out. Duration of the hike will be 1.5 hours; however, if the majority of the attendees have ambulatory challenges, the hike can be shortened further after a vote.

Bring: Probus Emergency Contact Card; bug spray; hiking boots and poles; water, trail mix for energy; &, a hat.

Meeting point and ride discription:We will meet at the Beaver Valley Community Centre in Thornbury and Ride the Georgian Trail to the Craigleith Depot, up the hill on 19 (the only "up", I promise) then through the subdivisions at the base of Alpine, down Arrowhead Rd to the trail and return for a treat at Timmies. Total is 25 km and should be about 2 hours.

Hiking Group #4 (May 27, 2026)

The hike is on a Wednesday at 10am. Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Joanne P will be leading this 'through' hike.

Difficulty, Pace & Length: This easy to moderate Bruce Trail hike will take approx. 1.5 -2 hours. Medium pace for approx. 6 kms.

Description: This is a through hike starting just south of Griersville on the Euphrasia-St. Vincent Townline and ending at the Bruce Trail parking area on Grey Rd 40. We will meet at the Rd 40 parking lot and car pool to the start of the hike near Griersville. The terrain is varied on this hike and it is mostly flat but we will be walking across flat rocks (Amabel Dolostone) in two areas so the difficulty is moderate. This is primarily a forested area.

Walking poles, sturdy footwear, bug spray and water are recommended.

Carpooling is recommended due to small parking lot.

Nottawasaga Model Railway #2 (May 27, 2026)

Nottawasaga Model Railway

We have arranged a second tour of the Nottawasaga Model Railway, as the first event was oversubcribed.

This is an HO scale model train club operating from the Bygone Days Heritage Museum in Collingwood. The Club has a 20 x 40 foot layout dedicated to the operation of trains that ran from Allendale to Collingwood in the 1950s.

The tour takes roughly 1 to 1 1/2 hours

There is a maximum of 15 people on this tour. However if there is sufficient interest, we will try to book more tours, so please add your name to the waitlist if the event is full.

Please note that they cannot accommodate wheelchairs (the model is too far off the ground to be viewed from a wheelchair).

There is parking onsite.

Hike #5 (June 03, 2026)

This hike is on a Wednesday at 10am.

Hike Details: West side of the Beaver Valley.

This is a new hike for many participants and it highlights the various geological levels shown in the Beaver Valley. From the parking area we will head east along a road allowance and the Bruce Trail into the Cuckoo Valley Overlook Nature Preserve, then turn onto the Stew Hilts Side Trail. Following the trail down into the valley we will pass numerous erratics and in maybe some late Jack in the Pulpit plants. The view of the falls is closeup, muddy but marvellous.

Difficulty: This is an easy hike if you don't mind going down and up a very long hill, plus some additional ups and downs. It is likely to be muddy and we will cross some streams with chances of getting wet. Moderate pace. Distance only 3.1 kms however it feels more like 5. This trail is primarily hard pack with some rocky areas. However the close up view of the Hilts Falls and geological strata make it worth while. And there is also the reward of the view over to Cuckoo Valley at the top. Time: Approx 1.75 hours

As always, please ensure you have the physical ability to handle the length, difficulty and pace.

Hiking poles & boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

Meeting Place: Top Of The Rock south parking lot in Eugenia on Grey Rd.13.

Parking is off Grey Rd.13, south of Top Of The Rock (where the gas station used to be 100 meters from TOTR).

Bike Trail Details: This is the ride for all E-bike lovers and regular bike people who like a challenge! We will ride around Lake Eugenia (approximately 25 km) and although it is a beautiful ride the challenge is in the hills that are both up and down, and we are not talking about 1 hill but quite a few. The reward is the ice. cream that they sell at Top Of The Rock at reasonable prices. We are on small roads and there are both paved and gravel roads and fortunately few cars.

Golf Tournament 2026 (June 16, 2026)

We are excited to announce this year's annual golf tournament! The price is the same as last year—it includes 18 holes of golf with cart, coffee and muffin to start, followed by a BBQ lunch and prizes after the golf.

The format is "Team scramble - 18 holes".

As with past tournaments, the teams will be assigned by the organizers to balance the teams and encourage meeting new members. We will consider preferred pairs by request only. You are welcome to register a non-member guest for this event!

Lunch options are: chicken on a bun, hamburger or a veggie burger or an egg salad sandwich and a choice of two side dishes: country potato salad, pasta salad, garden salad or Caesar salad.

Patti Shales Lefkos, journalist, adventure traveller and best-selling author of Nepal One Day at a Time and Grounded by Granite, has trekked extensively in Nepal. Her non-profit 'Nepal One Day at a Time Society' supports education and home building in post-earthquake Nepal.

Born and raised in Toronto, Patti built a rewarding career as a teacher, educational consultant, administrator, and advocate for inner-city children before studying journalism at Langara College. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Toronto Teachers’ College, Simon Fraser University, and the Wilderness Leadership Program at Capilano University.

Tay Shore Trail and Lunch ... This Ride is on a Monday this Year

Bike Trail Details: We will be cycling the Tay Shore Trail from Midland to Waubashene and back. We will start at 10:00 AM to allow time to drive but please arrive 10 minutes early.

We cycle the 16.5 km section of the trail to the east then on our return we will stop at the Queen's Quay Pub (67 Juneau Road, Victoria Harbour) at the 26 km mark. After lunch on the patio we finish our total ride of 33 km.

Walters Falls to Robson Lake and return. Note 9:30 start

Bike Trail Details:

This ride is from Walter's Falls to Hines and Connell's lakes which is half way to Williamsford. It is an out and back route cycled on smaller and less travelled roads. It is all on pavement and the distance is approximately 23 km in total. The route is passing farms and some small communities and is quite flat but there is minimal shade, hence the earlier 9:30 AM start.

Join us for a fun-filled summer picnic at the Stone Tree Golf, Fitness & Banquets Centre, just east of Owen Sound. We’ll be outdoors under a spacious tent where a delicious picnic lunch will be served.

In addition to great food, we’ll have games tables set up (euchre, board games, etc.) and space for lawn games like lawn darts and bean bag toss.

Theatre Outing - Nashville Music City (July 16, 2026)

We’ve never been disappointed in a King’s Wharf Theatre production, so join us for another fun musical production from Drayton Entertainment. This feel-good revue encompasses the musical evolution of Nashville becoming the uncontested home of country music. Tiny Trail: Wyevale to Penatang and return: 30 km

At the lights in Wyevale turn right onto Conc Rd. 5 E, there is a parking lot on the left before the School. For those who use "what3words" irritable.picture.evolve

Bike Trail Details:

This is one of my favorites, the Tiny Trail from Wyevale to Penetanguishene. The ride will last 2 hrs. and be 15km each way (30km).

We will be on a wonderful Rail Trail with great views of the countryside, farms, a golf course, the Blue Mountains (far far away) and of course the Penatang Harbour.

It is a flat trail until 5 km from Penatang where we will cross the Copeland Creek 10 times with ups and downs each time…. This is the fun part and we get to do again on the way back.

We will take a water break at the Champlain Statue in the park in Penatang, there is Chip wagon nearby for riders that have worked up a appetite, then we return to Wyevale for the world’s best soft serve Ice Cream at the Jug City.

Travel: Haida Gwaii (August 17, 2026)

Five nights and four days in fabled Haida Gwaii. Four days are spent touring the waters around Gwaii Hannas, a protected national park reserve. The tours are by 10-person Zodiac’s on which we will visit this uniquely beautiful area - often called “The Galapagos of Canada”. Meeting Place: Williamsford Community Centre, south side

Bike Trail Details: This week's ride is from Williamsford to Connell & Hines Lake and it is on quiet paved country roads and past beautiful scenery and no major hills. The ride is approximately 28 km long and we will rest and enjoy the peace, quiet and a swim at Hines Lake.

Coffee: No place to have one, we are in the boonies.

Kemble Loop ... 10 AM start to allow for travel

Meeting Place: Intersection of Grey Road # 1 and Kemble Rock Road, parking lot of the Kemble Women's Institute lookout North of OS.

Bike Trail Details: This ride is going from the area of Kemble and up to Big Bay with the return route being Grey Road # 1 along the Bay. It is beautiful scenery and there are some hills and gravel, the effort is well worth it but getting closer to the Fall we are all in shape after many rides.

Please remember to bring your helmet, contact information card, put on sunscreen and bring water or other beverage of your choice.

Travel: Le Petit Train du Nord Cycling Trip (September 13, 2026)

Join us for an 8-day scenic cycling tour along Quebec’s famous Petit Train du Nord, with charming villages, restaurants, microbreweries, and beaches along the way. The tour accommodates 14–24 cyclists, with luggage transferred daily and includes accommodations in lovely inns, breakfasts, one dinner, maps, itinerary, and guide support. A shuttle transfers participants from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Laurier, where the journey begins with a 44 km loop ride, followed by a four-day ride back to Saint-Jérôme (207 km total) at about 50 km per day, staying inn to inn. Elmvale to Anton Mills & return 27km Mostly on a Rail trail with one section on a county Rd, if you want a shorter ride you can turn around at any point.

Our September DIning Around Town is at Marilynne Restaurant in Markdale. We must have a minimum of 35 members as the restaurant is opening up especially for us.

The meal is served "Family Style". Dinner is $43.00 plus tax & gratuity.

No-Shows or late cancellations will be charged $43.00.

Menu: Herb roasted Beef, with red wine gravy and horseradish.

Sides: Caesar Salad with bacon, Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, honey glazed carrots and charred broccoli florets.

Starting Point We will meet at the Hibou Conservation Area, 359099 Grey County Road 15 (also called Bayshore Road) my three words are opener.joints.cooperation

At times it is paid parking at Hibou (a Grey Sauble Conservation Authority (GSCA) pass will let you park for free, there is also some parking at the entrance, Chances are the lot won't be Supervised on a Monday in Sept. There is a washroom at Hibou.

Bike Trail Details: This weeks ride will explore the area around Leith and Annan. . We will follow Bayshore Road along the Bay, head to the upper bench on SR 18 and through Annan on CR 15 to Tom Thomson Lane to Leith then back to Hibou Conservation area and yes there are both hills up and down and some Gravel

Lunch: We will have Lunch at the old Owen Sound Airport, its a great restaurant called Williams on 26 .

End of season ride and Party (September 28, 2026)

Meeting Point .... At Terry and Vicki's house, lots of parking in our driveway and on the street. Address will be on the confirmation email

Details: We will have a mystery ride, well not so much a mystery as we did it last year. After the ride you invited to our house for a end of season gathering, there will be Coffee and treats and we may be able to find some Beer and Wine.

We will provide the snacks and drinks but as it will be Noon when we return from the ride and you may be hungry and wish to bring a lunch to picnic on our deck.

We could talk about the 2027 riding season and next years overnight trip.
